Make Up Tips - Contour And Shade Your Face

I'm am sure my of us admire the sculpted features of models in magazines especially the ones that appear like they're not wearing makeup... yet, their feature looks very pronounced and sharp. Look at Estee Lauder's front page advertisements, Liz Hurley, Rhonda....Karen ...

Reality is... these model's face has been heavily contoured with magic of make up.... under harsh camera flash and external lighting... their faces appears flawlessly defined and with razor cut sharp feature. These type of make up enhancements is really nice in pictures, TV, stage and runways.... but it is not very suitable for hari hari make up.... But you can cheat, and have lighter  effect with the use of bronzer and highlighter.... it is juz about knowing where to place the contour.... and the right products.

Leave the dark shading foundation for wedding or those special occasions.

Here is the contour chart I've found on the internet you can use as a guide. Do take note, if you already have mega cheekbones... then shading your under cheekbones will only make you look even gaunt... so, pandai2 agak kesesuaian with your own face. I find most Asians do not have pronounced feature especially the nose and cheekbones, hence this technique below is generally suitable for us.

The white shade is the highlighter. You can use lighter shade of powder, foundation or light reflecting powder especially made for highlighting from MAC or Bodyshop and others too. Do find the ones that has the finest shimmer effect or matte, so that we'd look natural. Bigger sized glitter or shimmer may result in a 'party' look.

As for the dark brown shade is the contour or shading suppose to be. You can use 1-2 tone darker shade of foundation or powder, use darker shade of neutral color blusher or bronzer. A matte effect will give a better sculpted look. and evident instant cheekbone lift!

The placement of each shade and highlight is suppose to play with the light reflections on your feature to your benefit. As an example, put darker shading tones on your neck, under the chin to hide double chin and give you instant kurus look. Putting highlight on you chin will give you instant  ala Ziela jalil dagu runcing look. tak payah go inject Botox or filler or implants.

So, the next time you gawk and wonder how these people have such perfect features.... don't... it is just magic of make up and a photo editing.... even me and YOU can do it.

LANCOME Genifique Youth Activator Review

Ini barang baik....

Chewahh.... sebenarnya, some of you may know Lin actually dah terbeli set skin care baru dari ORIGINS.... setakat ni Lin mmg very satisfied with their products (except for the make A Difference, Skin Rejuvanating Moisturizer.. not suitable for combination skin, no matter what the SA tells you!) ... then tetiba terdapat pulak this LANCOME Genifique Youth Activator Serum 30ml...
Apa lagi, jenis pompuan tak sabar... I pon test ler..... Mana buleh tahan, tgk botol Lancome tu dok panggei nama I.... ;P

So, I pakai twice a day... about nak masok 2 weeks.... but the initial result mmg WOW! Lagi cepat and significant dari serum Origin, Skin Catalyst.... Maybe sebab harga dia pon RM350 sebotol 30ml.... korang devide tgk 1 ml brapa hengget?! Texture serum emulsion, tak berminyak... cepat meresap. Kalo pakai, teknik dia kena urut in circular motion.... bukan dab or pat on like serum biasa. Dia punya applicator ala picagari makmal gitu... baguih la gak....

Anyways, masalah dark circle, line bawah mata, smile lines pon dah berkurang... my face seems more brighter..... open pores kat area hidong and pipi pon dah kecik skit.... my oh my...cepat betol effect dia... samada kekal atau tak... itu kita akan lihat....

tapi kalo u all google review menda ni... byk gak org puteh kata depa naik jerawat/break out after guna Genifique ni.... korang refer makeupalley but setakat ni, alhamdulillah... Lin yg jenis suka berjerawat ni, tak plak naik jerawat... my skin feels much smoother actually..... Ini kisah benar yer, dari hati ke hati punya review....  bukan sebab Lancome kasi hadiah eh.

I think my mom will be happy trying this one out. In fact, she should be a better reviewer memandangkan dia mmg suka beli all this youth serum dari Estee la, Clinique la....

Salon Review : SKIN AFFAIRS Kota Damansara (via MilkaDeal)

NOTE:
Independent review. Personal view, experience may vary. Subject to own individual preference and pain tolerance.

Thanks to MilkADeal recently.... I only had to pay RM58 for a RM376 worth of facial which includes Gold Facial + Waxing + Neck & Eye Treatment for 2.5 HOURS. I had a pleasant facial experience there, price is affordable and yes, I would definitely go there again for facials... however, on the con side.... as this is a small independent salon (non franchise giants like BELLA or CRES)... their setup and ambiance is minimal. It means that you are not paying for the luxurious zen or Bali style decor.... if you do not mind these exterior factor (no doors, just thick curtains for the treatment rooms, which means the rooms are not sound proof, you can hear people walking by, talking .... non spacious room, no decor in the treatment room) then you may like to try it out at Skin Affairs. As for me, I'm the type that expects total tranquility the moment I step into the treatment room. However, for the price they offer, I do not mind going there again. Perhaps I bring my own ear muffs.

Firstly... most important... service. They do not seem to have any beauty consultants, only the beautician. Hence, there is no worries of pushy, twist your arms into signing up package. I like that. If you are familiar with typical giant beauty salon which employs so called beauty consultants to brain wash you into swiping your credit cards (read this blog for good example of which salon to stay away from http://eddida.blogspot.com/2008/06/what-lies-beneath-nak-story-sket_15.html )

So, next.. the beauticians does their work.... polite, not chatting up for you to buy extra ampules, sessions... They do their job, the extraction is tolerable.... Do take note my pain threshold is high for beauty sake. What I regards as not painful, may be 'sakit gilos siol!' to you. I, mean which extraction isn't painful? Is either excruciating or tolerable pain....

Their price range for maintenance facial (basic) is RM68 to RM120 ... mid range (hydrating, collagen etc) is RM120-RM220 ... and high end (facial reshape etc) is RM300-RM450. Reasonable for me. Their package is also attractive... Buy 3 free 1, buy 6 free 3 .... special Rate for maintenance facial during mon-fri, off peak hours.... Most salons, package in terms of 10 or 20 sessions.... This is definitely value for money package.

I had a Black Gold facial package. Becoz I had congested pores and all. It did left a firm feeling after one day, nice to touch feeling. As for the eye treatment, I was given a thermal eye mask for blood circulation. I wasn't use to heated mask before. but the result is still good. They gave me a whitening mask for my neck. I didn't like to cold massage cream tho.... I preferred Bella's and CRES style facial massage gel and technique better. We're talking like instance bliss the moment the beautician place their magical hands on yr face. Nonetheless, I could tolerate their cold massage cream ... maybe takes a lil bit of gettin use.

Next, I had my inaugural waxing session at a salon. I wanted to try the bikini wax... but i chickened out. Went for underarm waxing instead. Berdebar giler weih! Take note, you need to keep the hair panjang a bit for the waxing to 'jadi'... pendek kontot camaner the wax nak lekat. So, I kept my hairs for 2 weeks.... it drove me NUTS!!! sangat rimas OK!

BUT...
The result of waxing my underarm was amazing.... ko bayangkan... getting compliments from your hubby.... It was the most unexpected comment I got from hubby. He thought my underarms looks much nicer. Weird. muka dia tak komen... ketiak pulak dia perasan plak. heran herann....

Location... Skin Affairs in is The Strand, Kota Damansara. In the weekends, the parking .. ample. I think if u go on a weekday, it may be a tad susah.

What else.... so, I had a rather good experience there. I hope you guys will too.

Office Make Up Tips (Super Simple & Normal Basic)

ZA in Brown, Mary  Kay Tinted Lip Balm in Rose & Cheek Glaze

Super Simple Make Up For Those Who :

1. Have beautiful flawless skin
2. Do not like putting tonnes of make up feeling on their skin
3. Likes simple dewy look
4. Has only 5 minutes to spare in the morning

So, for those who are blessed with beautiful, flawless skin... why hide it underneath layers of foundation and powders? If u have good skin, flaunt it! Let your natural radiance shine! It is also good for those for constantly have make up long hours to give their face a break or timeout for breathing.... Once in a while, why not go au naturale.... Trust me, your skin will thank you for it. This type of simple make up is also good if you are late for work, and yet do not want to come in to work looking like ' muka nak mintak MC" ... Deathly Cullen white skin is never pretty....
So what do you need?

1. A good tinted moisturizer + sunblock or SPF. Becoz as far as I know, offices has the most killer air-conditioning system... it dries out your skin and gives bonus line and wrinkles too. On top of that, u'll be going out for lunch and nowdays, I think everybody should have sunblock on.  I use Bella's SPF 30 Sunblock.

2. A gel cheek glaze or cream to powder cheek/eyes with lively brown/coral colors. This is inject instant lively radiance or give you natural healthy look. The best I've found are from Mary Kay limited edition Cheek Glaze in Tangerine RM40(for dewy look) or ZA Transpowder Cheek Eyes in Brown (for those who prefer soft matte effect) Here's the sample swatches of the colors I've mentioned (without flash) . As you can see, it mimics the soft flush/blush you get after working out. Left is ZA, Right is MK's Cheek Glaze.

 3. Next, is of course a lil bit of tinted lip balm with SPF. I just love tinted lip balm. It gives you instant lift, and protects your lips too. I always keep them in my handbag for touch ups, after breakfast, after lunch..atfter teatime... :P ... I love the compactness of Mary Kay's Tinted Lip Balm with SPF... it fits into your pockets and even my lady purse. And have you seen their colors? They're so natural! Mary Kay has done a beautiful job injecting a la Bobbi Brown elegant natural colors into their make up portfolio.

Estee Lauder & Lancome Quad Eye Shadow

Normal Rush Hour Office Make Up in 10 mins to max 15 minutes for those who:

1. Likes full on make up and tip top finished look
2. Doesn't have even skin and feels the need and help of foundation coverage.
3. Likes quick make up under 10 minutes and take the guess work out

Now, for those who are like me... I have a face of a unfinished sketch.... it needs a lil bit dash of colors and few definition here and there to look ... like a done portrait . So, for everyday make up to the office, I like to keep it simple, quick but still look nice. Here are some of my short cuts and tips :

:
FOR FACE :
I find using compact or 2 way cake that offers full coverage, long staying performance and has matte effect with also added SPF cuts the blending time to minimal.Find the ones that doesn't clog your skin and offer good stuff for your skin (imagine you'll be wearing these at least 8-12hours per day) Instead of using liquid foundation and finish it with  loose powder, I prefer using these babies for every day work (when I was working la) :
1. Stage Photo PRO with SPF 25 - cheap & good
2. My new fav LANCOME Maqui Miracle with SPF 35

Clinique is also as good, but lately I am not too impressed with their color tone.

You can use concealers before applying the two way cake, if you have major scars.... juz make sure it matches your compact. Else, the patches might show.

FOR EYES:
You really do not want to spend time thinking about coordinating which eye shadow colors to match your outfit. And I do not find office time isn't really the time to experiment with crazy eye colors UNLESS you have cool working environment that do not mind a lil bit of 'excitement' in the office. ELSE, stick with neutral, earth colors that is corporate looking. Save the glitters for after office hours. I like choosing quad colors eye shadows that compliment each other no matter how u wear it. Socket look or layered look. I love eyeshadow that gives a darker shade for lining or intensifying your look. So, you can easily play up or down with the same colors just by adding the defining dark colors on top. I usually skip liquid eyeliner and use pencil instead. Sometimes I skip all together and use volume mascara instead. I alternate my expensive mascara with cheaper ones like from Maybelline. The Magnum Volume Express mascara from Maybelline does offer value for money and gives great lush eyelash effect. For me at least.
I actually have a video ready, but I'm having trouble to upload on YouTube since last week. Apa nak buat... simpan buat pekasam la nampaknya..... :(
I hope you find this entry helpful... enjoy reading my blog. Stay tune as I will do a review on my latest trip to a salon last week in Kota Damansara.
